Flight
Sunday, 4 May 2025, 3PM
Pitt St Uniting Church. 264 Pitt St Sydney 2000
Guest Musical Director Ruth McCall, eminent Sydney-based composer, choir director and teacher joins us for Flight. Ruth curated Flight for Coro, featuring early composers, new Australian composers, recorder and piano.
Join us as we discover new ways of hearing, seeing and feeling the sensation of flying through the four movements of this concert:
- The early bird
- Sounds and haptics
- Flights to Australia
- Your turn to fly
Whether it be Janequin’s famous Les chant des Oiseaux, or new songs by Australian composers Ruth McCall, Lachlan Skipworth and Lachlan Massey, each song is a tribute to the concept of flight in its many surprising guises.
Some are challenging (the marvelously complex round Madarhivogato by Zoltan Jeney), some literally take your breath away (It must have Felt like Flying by Annie Kwok), and some are just glorious to sing (Sondheim’s Green Finch and Linnet Bird). The program features recorder and piano, with improvisations interweaving between the pieces.
We’re sure you’ll come away from this concert feeling as though you want to fly!
